Every year, almost 10,000 infants and 1,200 preschoolers nationwide are diagnosed with a form of cerebral palsy. Long before a diagnosis, however, many parents suspect there is something wrong. They see that their child is not developing the way other children are.
If you suspect that your child has cerebral palsy—even if you don’t yet have a diagnosis—and you believe that your medical providers may not have acted properly during your pregnancy and childbirth, contact my law office. I can help you get answers to the questions you have about your child’s condition.
I’m Eric Laubacher, a medical malpractice attorney and a person with cerebral palsy. I understand the fears and stress you’re experiencing. I talk with parents every day in my law practice and in my volunteer work on the Board of Directors of United Cerebral Palsy of Cleveland.
As difficult as it is to learn that your child has a medical condition, there is hope and help. Your dedication and persistence will be the key to your child’s future. I’m here to help you find answers and resources to help your child reach his or her full potential.
Researchers are still investigating the causes of cerebral palsy. What we know today is that cerebral palsy does not have a single cause, but in some cases it can be the result of birth injury. You may suspect medical malpractice played a role if:
(Cerebral palsy most often occurs while the child is developing in utero and is not the result of anything the mother did during the pregnancy.)
By investigating the facts of your case, I can determine if there was medical negligence, in which case we can bring a medical malpractice suit. The money damages you collect can be used to pay for your child’s therapy, adaptive equipment, and educational needs. I can also assist you in setting up a special needs trust to ensure your child’s medical and educational needs can be covered in the future.
If I find that there was no medical negligence in your case, you gain the peace of mind of knowing there was nothing that could be done to prevent this…but there are things that can be done today to help you move forward.
I can put you in touch with caring folks like you who are doing their best to see that their child and other children have a positive future. I can help you access resources in Ohio and can tell you about promising and innovative therapies being tested around the world.
